Ok I know this is a stupid question but does anyone know if rent quoted for apartments is weekly or monthly rates? I only ask because I'm planning on spending the summer in New York and any site I've checked out hasn't specified whether it was weekly or monthly rates. I know living is expensive in New York but $2300 a week for a 2 bedroom apartment in the village seams really expensive to me,maybe I'm just really naive about the whole living in New York thing? Anyway any info would be much appreciated guys!!

It is very rare to see rents listed as weekly.
Most rents will be quoted as a monthly rate, and that is probably with signing a one or two-year lease.
$2,300 for a two bedroom in the Village is a pretty good deal!

If it's weekly, it's absurd. If you are visiting just for the summer, I don't think you should consider living anywhere other than Manhattan. As a former Manhattan resident and a current Queens resident, Manhattan is the real deal as far the NYC experience goes. Otherwise, you will spend way too much time commuting. 2300 sound pretty cheap for a 2 bedroom in the village. I paid the same price a few years ago for a 2 bedroom in a much less desirable part of the city, so if that deal is real and the apartment looks nice, I would take it! Also, as others suggested, I very highly recommend craigslist. I have found roommates on that very site and I have always been so happy with the results. I also subletted my place through craigslist 2 summers ago, and everyone was very happy with the arrangement. Good luck!

That would be a monthly rate. If you are only coming for the summer, be sure to check out sites like craigslist, because you might be able to find a sublet for less money. If you are willing to commute a bit to get to Manhattan, you can often find less expensive apartments in Queens or Brooklyn.
If you are a female and have a job, you might want to check out places like The Webster Apartments or the Brandon Residence, which provide less expensive rooms for women living alone in Manhattan for short periods of time.

Monthly. Very rarely do they list apartments as a weekly rent. Check out craigslist to find apartments in NYC. It is the best way to go. Watch out for brokers, try to avoid brokers if you can.

Unless it's specified as a vacation rental, most apartments are rented monthly.

WHERE? in new york .. i lived in a studio in staten island for 500
per month (small ) but cheap and upstate is less expensive too... you can even try bayonne.nj . although the neighborhood sucks you can get a place 15-20 minutes from the NYC for 1000. per month
you need to really look at the (small )local comunity papers.

Rates from what I have heard are as follows:
High
Very high
Extremely high
Outrageously high
and
Don't even ask! You couldn't afford it anyway.
I have never been to New York City but that is what I have been told by others.
