What do you want to do? You can call the police and ask if anyone has reported a missing dog, also the shelters.I would keep it and report it, if no one calls for it you may have found a very nice dog. AC or the police will let you keep it and call you if someone calls, usually. You can also list it under lost dogs on several different sites on the web. Its up to you what you want to do, You can let it walk off, maybe someone else will take it in. You can let animal control take it but if no one gets it in 3 days (in most places) it will be put down. If it is a breed you can call the breed rescue also in the area also.

If I found a stray dog in my yard I would First keep it confined so it couldn't run off and get hit by a car. I would then see if it seemed friendly. If so, then I would take it to a local animal shelter. If for whatever reason I was nervous that it may be aggressive, I would call animal control to come pick it up.

ask around in the neighborhood if anyone is missing a dog.buy a little food and feed him so he doesnt wander away in search of food. u can also put up a lost dog poster around in the nearby cross streets. if there is a local no kill shelter, see if they can take him if u arent able to keep him in ur yard and dont want the responsibility of taking care of him while his people are looking for him. on the other hand, if he seems nice and u want a new dog, u may have gotten one! we never bought a single dog or cat as they have all just kinda showed up on our porch and stayed. some had been abandoned or simply left their owners to b with us (one even was brought back to his former people, and he promptly travelled on his own across a couple cities and a freeway to b back with us and our other dog!). if it seems like he may b there to stay, take him to the vet to b sure he is healthy and has his shots. be prepared for unusual behavior also, sometimes dogs that have liberated themselves from abusive owners will have bad associations with certain things. the dog i mentioned b4 that came back to us was afraid of brooms and was nervous about getting on the sofa. sometimes it takes a little extra understanding w a "found pet" because they have a history that u will never fully know. best of luck w your new friend!

Depending on where you're from - you can either call the humane society to come pick it up, or do what some rednecks do when a stray dog is in their yard trying to make babies with their female dog...shoot it.

If you can catch the dog and take it to the shelter you should. If there is a reason you don't feel it is safe for you to catch the dog call animal control to take it. If you can't find the number for animal control call the shelter for the number.

Rescue him, of course. Then find him a good home, I know places all over that would take him in. Good Luck.
