My first cookbook was the Better Homes & Gardens Cookbook. Got it 35 years ago and still refer to it from time to time. Very basic.

In all honesty, my first cookbook was the Better Homes & Gardens one, the one with the red/white plaid cover. Lots of basics in there, pictures, substitutions, explanations, everything. To this day I still use it, and the Betty Crocker one. They're really good for learning and still useful after years. I still have one from th 60's!

Betty Crocker has a basic cook book.
Joy of Cooking is another.
Food network is a great resource.
Try typing "beginner recipes" or something similar into a search engine.
Hope these suggestions help.
