I would go to a dress shop that specializes in gowns. I am sure yours is not the first time. If they don't have a dress, you may be able to get some great ideas. The good thing is that fashion is so much more wide open today and more is acceptable. Just don't wear white shoes and dress more for comfort.

Depends. If you are the service member, go to the uniform shop on base and ask for the appropriate mess dress uniform. It's probably gonna cost $500+ before alterations.
