I work in a daycare. A child with impetigo put his face up against mine. The effected area was covered with a bandaid. I immediately washed my face with soap and water. But does anybody know if I could still be infected? Is there anything else I can do to prevent it as much as possible now that i've been in contact with it? I'm panicing because i'm leaving for a wedding in 5 days! HELP PLEASE

Impetigo is contagious and can spread to anyone who comes into contact with infected skin or other items, such as clothing, towels, and bed linens, that have been touched by infected skin.

You could still have it, but it is unlikely since you washed. Since it has an incubation period between 4 and 10 days, it may not show up for a few more days.

I don't think you should panic. You are probably not infected, but if you are you just have to wait and then see the doctor (treatment is antiobiotic ointment).

I would think you would be ok. I had it as a child and no one in my family ever came down with this. If you are concerned go see a doc on this subject. This child should of stayed home until he was completely well. Good luck and hey have fun at the wedding . I am sure you will be OK.
