I need to sell the car to one of my friends. How do I transfer the title.? Should I write letter saying that "vehicle is sold as-is"? Who signs the letter - buyer, seller or both? Please let me know

Get the cash from him.

Sign the back of the title as the seller (you)

Write a Sales Slip stating the price for which you sold it

Write an "as is" letter. Notarize it, you both sign it.

It completely depends on what State this transaction is taking place in and what kind of Vehicle (age and miles) the vehicle is. There are states where "as-is" is not a viable option. For example, in New York, unless the vehicle is in excess of 100,000 miles anyone (private party or dealer) must warrantee the vehicle for a specific amout of time and miles.

I would suggest that you contact your local DMV. They should be able to assist you with the sales process and give you information about the state's merchantablity standards.

I hope this helps.
