Give me a break. No, movies should not be rated R for smoking. We've become a nation of overly sensitive individuals.
People need to start taking responsibility for their actions.
Why is it that most parents, who are smokers, don't want their kids to smoke? Because they know it's bad for you. Yet, these same people turn around and sue.
Is smoking bad? Of course. Did the tobacco industry lie or made ciggarettes too strong, or made it attractive, or... or... or....etc... - Yes.
HOWEVER:
No one put a gun to anyone's head and forced them to smoke. We really need to stop blaming others for our choices, take some responsibility and live with the consequences.

pg or p-13 at the most but R rated? That's like saying a kid can be walking home from school and be watching an R Rated movie right there. How can a parent monitor that? That's foolish to make a movie R-Rated just because it has smoking in it...

Uh, no. If so then we should make all movies rated R that have drinking, speeding, lying or anything else that might be bad for someone. Better yet, how about we don't let kids watch any movies at all. Then we can make sure they are completely sheltered from anything bad. Get real.

No..Parents should be responsible enough to talk to their children about the effects of smoking and explain to them that a fictional character in a movie is not someone to emulate..

Well if movies with smoking do get rated "R" then movies with drinking (wine, beer or liquor) should also be rated "R". Young kids are not only smoking but they are drinking and do drugs. Smokiing gets so much negative reviews but everyone thinks drinking is so cool. well drinking kill innocent people.
(ps; no i am not a smoker or drink.)

Absolutely not. Should people be fined for smoking outdoors if someone under the age of seventeen *gasp!* sees them? That's an absolutely insane proposition, in my not-so-humble opinion.
