Bad credit is one of the worst problems to have... however there exists a solution.
I will hereby talk from my personal experience.
I did debt consolidation a couple of years ago, however If I had to do it again I would pay to some minor details,
if someone wants to get out of debt today it is pretty easy with a debt consolidation plan, however it may get a bit tricky at times, I suggest you get as much information as possible online on this first,
a good place to start in my humble opinion is astraight to the point ebook with question and answer I found :

if it helps kindly remember me in your voting!.. cheers!

You will need to secure a free credit report to ascertain this. Usually records are kept for a minimum of 7 years but during that time, you can still improve your credit score

What you have told us leads me to believe you don't need credit anymore. So really, it is best for you to pay everything cash, thereby saving money by NOT PAYING interest and finance charges.
You can do this by writing out your budget EVERY month and agreeing on it with spouse or significant other. Nothing gets spent that' s not in the budget and nothing is bought on credit. This isn't easy but it's better than paying so much interest.
Good Luck

Odds are it has. You are entitled to one free credit report each year by law due to government regulation. Make sure you go to the TRUE site...
https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp
Don't go to sites like freecreditreport.com or others that will want you to pay for it or get a service.
