I know that you don't have to tip at all if you don't want to, but I'm a pretty good tipper. Thing is....do you tip certain people at times like these....say, the carhops at Sonic...or the restaurant if you order take out & come pick it up? Do you tip them at all?

I only tip waitresses/waiters and bartenders, and only if they are not assinine or bring me cold food. I don't usually tip fast food, as that is not expected, but I would if they were exceptionally great, and went out of their wat to please me!

YES! If it is a service that is extra than the price of the food or product you tip. Someone pumping your gas for you,barber,someone takes your groceries out to the car for you etc.... 20% for excellent service down to 15% for fair service. Most people have no idea what a take out person at a restaurant has to go through to pack up your food.It is almost the same as if you were eating in the restaurant. It deserves a good tip! Another thing is...if the food is not quite ready when you arrive to pick it up,it is NOT the take-out persons fault. After the person orders the food,they are at the mercy of the kitchen. A lot of people get mad and then take it out on the to-go person(not tipping etc....). Remember,if it is a service extra than what you are paying for..Tip. People who work in the service industry don't have huge paychecks,a few extra dollars can really make their day.

You don't have to tip these guys at all. However, I love to tip because I am a very generous person. Whenever I'm at Sonic and have my debit card, there's no room for tip, that means they don't expect one, but if I use cash, I will often give them a dollar or tell them to keep the change because they have to walk out there and deliver to everyone. If you go to pick something up...DO NOT TIP! You're already paying for food and that's all you got. NO ONE GAVE YOU ANY SERVICE. That's what the tip is meant for at restaurants. So don't feel bad if you don't tip any of these people.

Carhops are wait-staff and should be tipped the same as waiters.
BTW, for those that wouldn't/ don't tip these guys: just how cheap can you be? I mean come on! You spend $5 for a meal and you can't give a buck?

Sonic ! Yes the car hops at Sonic are to be tipped. $1 dollar if it's a order under $8 over that I give $2.00.

I tip when I am being served at a table in a restaurant (acceptable to excellent service only).
And my hair stylist because she hasn't screwed up my hair once in the 7 or 8 years I have been going to her.
And the Greek restaurant I get takeout from because their food is so good and they are so nice.
Other than sitting in a restaurant, it has to be an extraordinary circumstance.

No you really don't need to tip them. They don't base their pay on that. Waiters and Waitresses really do rely on the tip because they really don't get hardly any money from the company.

the rule is if they provide a service, tip them. hairdresser, valet, massuer... If you do the foot work like pick up take out , no tip.
