Almost but not quite. Pride is thinking very highly of oneself. Vanity has the same meaning but also has a second meaning. When discussing something that says it is all vanity...it means it is all worthless.

I think vanity is empty pride in oneself, where nothing significant comes of it. Real pride has merit, like accomplishments that effect yourself and others in positive ways.

Pride = a conceited sense of one's superiorty.

Nope... to be vain is to take pleasure in one's self.
I think Pride can be transferred to other people or tasks you did.

I.e i have pride that my son went to college... thats not vanity!

No, not at all.

You can be proud of someone without being vain. Vanity is defined as too much pride.

I am proud of our troops who do their duty in spite of having a moron as commander in chief.
