That doesn't sound fun. Looks like you'll have to research it on the medical symptom sites and then go to the doctor if your search doesn't yield results. I searched terms "painful sore inside nostril" and found the probable cause as a cold sore: http://en.allexperts.com/q/Women-s-Health-3228/NOSE-SORE.htm

You're going to want a Drug-free answer!
You might try a saline nasal RINSE (not a spray) A full warm water saline rinse goes in one nostril and out the other. It draws out all the gunk and shrinks the tissue (like swimming in the ocean).
The buffered salt doesn't 'sting' as much as plain salt water. You can use a new method like Nasopure, or the vintage, Netipot. The special bottle and salt is about $20. It's also very useful if you participate in sports as this is a drug-free cure.
You can do this a often as you like with no bad side effects.
You don’t need a prescription for this therapy. So if you live in a state like mine, they’ve pretty much “outlawed” sudafed medicine. Drug-free is really the way to go on a frequent-use basis.

Get some Aquaphor!
You can find it at your local store, usually by the lotions. It's not a lotion, it feels like Neosporin Ointment.
This stuff works wonders for just about anything!
I have sensitive skin and I can even use this on my face when I have a break out to help things heal up real fast!
I have used this for my daughters diaper rash, my dry nose when the inside gets dry and cracks, dry skin in general, and the one that blows me away is....my kitty had surgery and one little part wasn't healing and a little "stitch" was sticking out, I put Aquaphor on it a few times a day and it healed up within 2 days!
I highly recommend it!

did you go to the doctors the first time? I know what you are talking about I think I get them and they hurt. I found that antibotics make them go away quicker. I get them in my ears too. If you can take a very hot wash cloth and place it on it. try to get some of the fluid out and shrink it. You can put a triple antibotic ointment from over the counter on it. But basically you will just have to wait it out. You can also try benzolye proxide. same as for acne. spot treatment. may help dry it up. basically it has fluid in it and that is what is causing the pain.

It sounds like an ingrown hair. My husband used to get them at the tip of his nose and he said they were very painful. It also used to become red and swollen. He would put hot compresses on his nose to make the pain go away and after a day or two the swelling and redness would subside.

This is not an emergency, however, I would not put any more topical medications on it. First, if the vet wants to do a fungal culture, you may invalidate his results. Second, most cats just eat whatever you put on their skin anyway.

depending on how long it lasts, it could be just a zit or pimple on the inside of your nose. it should go away in a couple of days

sounds like it could just be a nasal cold sore. Get some abreva and use a q-tip to apply it to the sore, see if that helps.
