I heard that if you get away from people who smoke and NOT allowing people to smoke in your house is part of to stop smoking.

But can you always be like that, avoiding people that smoke. Can you have desire to do it even after you stopped smoking for 3 months?

What's the best way to stop? What if you feel like whenever your sad, you smoke? Or else, you will be sad.

You must have the will and a very strong reason to quit smoking before you're successful. Put 'sad' out of your vocabulary and don't use it as an excuse.

Here are some tips to consider:

1. Trash all reminders that you've smoked, such as ashtrays, packs of cigarettes, and fumigate your living quarters.

2. Brush teeth and rinse with a cinnamon flavored mouthwash when you wake in the morning. Brush immediately after every meal and whenever the addiction calls.

3. Drink unsweetened grapefruit juice and take vitamin C three times a day.

4. Avoid coffee, tee, or alcoholic beverages.

5. Keep busy. Exercise. Do volunteer work, hobbies, and avoid doing nothing.

6. Put reminder signs up everywhere that might say, "No Smoking," "I've quit!" "No More Addictions" and "No Stinking Breath."

7. If you are a religious person, give thanks to God and continually ask for strength to avoid this addiction and to overcome it.

8. Don't give in to temptation from others. Be firm in your decision to quit regardless the smoke that is blown your way.

9. Watch your temperament and resolve to remain calm and in control of yourself. Remember, only you can control your body urges. Stay in control and don't allow your urges to control you.

I haven't smoked in almost 10 years and every morning when I take my first sip of coffee I want one. I'm a weak woman, not Mrs. Will Power by any means, and I quit cold turkey. You need to buy a jump rope and do that whenever you want to smoke. Or do push ups. You will stop the cravings in no time if you do exercise every time you'd like to smoke! I thought about my poor grandpa that died of emphysema, and what he would say to me about smoking. Guilt helps, too!

My husband and I used the nicotine patches - Equate brand from WalMart (they are cheaper)- we both had smoked for years. Now we cannot stand the smell of someone who does smoke. Do not dwell on the fact that you are quitting - that just makes it more difficult.

We never smoked in our house - always went outside or to the garage - got pretty cold in the winter, but never liked the smell of a smoky house even when we smoked. We both feel so much better.

Good luck to you.

I have now been smoke free for a year and 3months. You have to just quit cold turkey. It helps not to be around people who smoke. I still have a craving to smoke, but it usually after dinner when I am at home, you have to fight the urge. You have to take it one day at a time, to start with sometimes it's minute by minute. Good Luck to you!

I have been taking a new medication called Chantix for almost 2 weeks. It is supposed to repress the part of the brain that craves the cigerettes. So far I have cut down to half of what I was smoking. (I have been smoking for 11 years). Its worth a try....

Yes, cold turkey is it !!! Slowing down is just lying and cheating yourself.
You have to eliminate areas & people that are smoking...it may be hard to
resist the temptation but it isnt hard to stay away from the areas that you know youll be tempted in. It's a bad habit that isnt hard unless you make it.
Whenever you feel the craving, try eating something, drinking orange juice, chewing a toothpick. You can do anything you put your mind to. www.myspace.com/christxjesus
