MacArthur was a military leader in WW2 when figthing against Japan. He was a great captain and a grate strategist. He fougth the Japanese on the Phillips that was a grate loss for the Americans of territory and on soldiers. When the General retreated in 1942 from the Philips he swear to return, which hi did in the late 1944, but not to take over the phillips cause that would have been suicide, but he return only to save the Americans that were capture by the Japanese, only saving 35% of them cause the Japanese started to kill the Americans.
MacArthur still today is a fugure to last for history even if he current stand a chance against the Red sun Empire, he won few battles and always making what it was better for his mans.

I agree with MacArthur being a good military leader and strategist. However, he is the sort of person full of egos and difficult to work with. This is according to Admiral Chester Nimitz who had to sit with him in planning the liberation of the Pacific islands. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt also disliked him. This is the reason why in World War II, MacArthur was sent to be the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in the Pacific, instead of being sent to be the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe, the job which eventually went to Dwight David Eisenhower (Roosevelt's opinion was that MacArthur might not get along well with Winston Churchill). During the Korean War, MacArthur was the Commander of the UN Coalition Forces. But he had a lot of disagreements with then President Harry Trumann and was eventually sacked for insubordination (for giving his own statements to the press in contradiction with the official White House statements). After his relief, MacArthur returned to public life and lived in obscurity until his death.

He was But
He lost the plot during Korea, he thought he and the US were in charge and wanted to nuke China.
Fortunately the UN allies overruled him and to the rest of the world he had disgraced himself which led to him getting fired later

McArthur had become legend by avioding enemies. he actually was a coward when it comes to facing opposing forces. he fought the WW2 by remote control and he knows exactly when will the fighting ends. so much of his rethorics!
"I shall return" (when there's no more to fight with)
