I noticed that you rarely see someone make a big deal out of any of the hundreds of religions as much as Christianity. Is it the faith itself, the people? Why are they hated so much?

I demonstrate loving-kindness and am very patient, tolerant, and forgiving toward christians everyday, and on Yahoo Answers as well.

What makes some people choose to hate some {not all) christians is that - after a christian has asked someone if they want to become a christain, and they may say no, they often continue to press them to receive Jesus, telling them if they don't they'll suffer eternally in hell/lake of fire. I have experienced this countlessly, but am much more patient and forgiving now. Have learned this as a student of Buddhism.

I understand that it is the christians purpose to evangelize people, but a christian should ask the person once, not judging or condemning the person, then leave it at that. Jesus, according to the bible said that if people reject the gospel after hearing it once, shake the dirt off your feet and go on to the next person, and simply pray for the person you have shared with.

I understand where your coming from but at the same time I do understand where the others are coming from also.

It is wise for a christian to share with those who are open-minded and are wanting/willing to hear. I have a relative who is a christian, and before she shares Jesus with a person, she prays hard, that the holy spirit will prepare the person's heart, then she shares.
She has shared with me, but once, and she respects my free will, understanding that I am Buddhist, and she has never judged or condemned me for being Buddhist. I highly respect my Aunt's methods. She respects the free will of others. Maybe this method would do well with most other christians as well.

Jesus was able to remain calm, and mentally and spiritually undisturbed, even in the face of harm and difficulties. This is the definition of Patience. And Love is very Patient and kind.
I respect Jesus, as I do my Aunt, who both learned True Patience {having the ability to remain calm, and mentally and spiritually undisturbed even in the face of harm or difficulties).
I too learned this Patience through the Eightfold path of Buddhim.
Through introspection, one can deduct that many christians believe by faith that they are saved {1st step for christians, the bible says in Eph 2:8-9), but many have "not" yet transformed their minds according to Rom. 12:2, thus they have "not" yet acquired a stable mental/emotional and spiritual peace of mind.
And that is why they are so easily offended, when in 1 Cor. 13:4-7;11 it says that Love is not easily angered or easily offended. My christian Aunt and I have many talks about the Bible, the Dhammapada {Buddha's teachings) and have much mutual respect for one another and love each other unconditionally, as Jesus and Siddhartha Gautama{the Buddha) taught.

Thank You for your question, and I do honestly respect you way of life. If it has brought you purpose, peace of mind, and happiness, that is great, for that is what is most important.
Buddhism has brought me much purpose for my life, and helped to acquire much Patience toward others, peace of mind, and Happiness.

I grew up in an abusive (Christain) church, and am now a Pagan. I don't hate Christians. Just giving you the scoop on me. To your question:

Try an experiment (in the US, anyway). Next time someone asks you anything about church/God/beliefs, etc, without any kind of bitterness, just a statement, simply say, "Oh, I'm not a Christian." In December, try, "No I don't celebrate Christmas." You won't believe the looks you'll get! Our society has an underlying mistrust and even hatred of non-Christians. It can be subtle, but most non-Christians feel it everyday, and it starts to hurt. Some start to resent all Christians for it. That's wrong of them, but it happens.

You also need to take into account that the Bible is quite possibly the most violent piece of literature ever written. It encourages the murder of people who don't follow it's laws. Even though modern Christians (usually) don't go with that part of the Bible, the truth is, it kind of frightens us. I have a subtle fear of "born-again" Christians as a Pagan and as a gay person, a woman, etc, because I know that the more extreme fanatic type Christians might want to actually hurt me. Some people have that fear, but won't rationalize that it's few for very few Christians.

You might want to look into the history of Christianity. Like I said, I'm cool with almost all Christians, but face it: it's a history of extremely cruel, sadistic and dangerous people. That's just the historical fact.

I don't know if you can really make the case that xianity is "hated". Nor can I speak for other people. So I'll tell you why I personally hate xianity.
I think that religious fundamentalism destroys society, is hostile to science and knowledge, and is a political force for oppression. The Christian religion in America has been subverted by fundamentalists with a definate political and social agenda-and that agenda is in my opinion narrow minded and bigotted.
Now, I know that Christianity itself is based on the moral principles of love and selflessness. But throughout its long history the Church (either in the form of Catholicism, Protestantism or present day Evangelicals) has NEVER been an overriding force for moral good. In fact, moral good has almost always happened over the protests of the "church".
Christianity has almost always stood for social oppression and hatred dressed in religious clothes. I'm talking about the Inquisition, the Pope's meddling in political affairs in Europe (historically), the bloodbath that was the Reformation, and the bloodbath that was the Christian colonization of the Americas. I'm talking about slavery (it was the church that defended it with Biblical tradition, both in America and Europe). I'm talking about mass killing in Africa in the name of "christianizing" that continent. And present day right-winger Fundamentalist Christians.
In my opinion, the RELIGION of Christianity has been nothing but destructive and barbaric. There happen to be some Christian PEOPLE that have been good people and stood up for good things, but I would say that that was in spite of the political and social agenda of the religion and not because of it. Seems despite Christianity's best attempts, there are still some people that actually do believe that "love your neighbor" and "turn the other cheek" aren't just words, but are actually words to live by.

PS. The abbreviation "xian" is not meant to be derogatory. "X" is the Greek symbol for "Christ".

Anti atheism is doing lots harm to Christianity that that's fairly anti Christianity – David Manley It takes fairly purely one to make a quarrel. that's ineffective for the sheep to bypass resolutions in favour of vegetarianism, whilst the wolf keeps to be of a different opinion. - William Ralph Inge. Why so unaware of what reasons the backlash against christianity? all the different religions and atheists stay in peace and are purely attacked by potential of undesirable christians which reasons all good christians to melancholy on the wear they do! Up until approximately 40 years returned Christianity became thriving and there became no conflict with others yet in in basic terms those few short years the widespread christians have become illiberal, hate crammed, bigoted and persecuting ensuing in a transforming into backlash against christianity and inflicting christianity to loose over ten % in below a decade with the loss accelerating! The self destruction of Christianity is underway and the only component which could stop that's to desert the unfavorable human thoughts, seek for to rediscover the assumption of a loving god and act like it! Well, most of us are either American or European, and so being that Christianity is a dominant religion in many of our countries of origin, doesn't it make sense that we would complain about Christianity above say, Hinduism?

Besides, the majority of Christians who will discuss religion tend to be very ignorant and demeaning as to their own faith and those of others. I do not mean to paint them all with a black stripe, but I do not know very many Christians whose faith is anything more than a particular brand of mythology they were indoctrinated into.

Christianity is a fascist religion, now NOT ALL CHRISTIANS are fascist but the TEACHERS are and many followers are but I have many friends who are christian and also tolerant, but then again...
To love and eccept homosexuals, interacial marriage, Paganism(which literally made christianity), or ANYTHING DIFFRENT is against the bibles teaching

The bible has nothing to do the christianity, Its a paper book used as a guideline by the Council of Nicea by conctantine long ago
It has changed often and is merely a fable story book.

Christianity (and any god/s/ess/esses following faith is nothing more than a large cult)

I only dislike Christians who are close-minded, dishonest arrogant, ignorant and irresponsible - and those who try to force their ways upon the rest of us.

So how large a percentage of Christians do I dislike? Based on those who post here, it would seem high, wouldn't it? In real life there are plenty of decent Christians, luckily, but I'm glad I don't live in the bible belt.

We (I presume) live in America. America is 85% Christian. What, you expected people to be complaining about Zoroastrians?

Yes, my "defense" of Christians is that they just have a lot more opportunity to make a55es of themselves in this country. And sure, some of them exploit this opportunity to the fullest. To a rational person, it's somewhat alarming to watch a cult of fanatics trying to (e.g.) hobble the public school education system (as if it needed the help).

I don't hate them, I just dislike their tendency to ram God down peoples throughts. They use an ancient unverifiable text as their proof, and most of them are hypocrites. Not any worse than any one else perhaps, but they just get so riled when you disagree with there beliefs!

You will hardly ever see( personally i've never seen) people from other religions trying to convert "non-believers". Other religions seek to teach while christianity seeks to fill up it's ranks.
