Its both. Its a good idea because it takes pressure off of wild fish and provides a cheap source of fish. Its a bad idea because fish farms introduce diseases into wild populations, and the waste from the farms can create a dead zone on the ocean below the pens.

Good idea:
1. There's a large demand for seafood, and this can help meet the demand.

Bad idea:
1. Farming Atlantic salmon in the Pacific ocean! If they escape, they could displace the native species.
2. Concentrating the fish thus makes a breeding ground for diseases and parasites, which can be passed to the wild fish with devastating effect on the wild population.
3. Fish grown in pens may not be as healthy a food for people than wild fish.
4. If we're catching small "bait" fish, why not process those into food for people, instead of feeding them to captive salmon? Wouldn't that be more efficient, and less concentrating of toxins such as mercury?

it is good but extremly hard.. we do that in school for my class
