If you're trying to lower the fat and calories in the recipe, try applesauce. If you just don't have any oil to make the cake melt butter or margarine in the same amount as the recipe calls for with the oil.

don't use olive oil in a cake, it will taste horrible and still be fattening. Use applesauce. There are many recipes for this. Look on the back of cake mixes as well, many of them list this as a substitution.

Many people have said use apple sauce, but they didn't say how much ... so here you go:
Substitute the SAME amount of apple sauce as the recipe calls for oil.
It will actually leave your cake more moist thatn if you were to have used butter or oil anyway! Yum!

If the recipe calls for vegetable oil, there's really nothing else you can use. You could try leaving it out, but the result will undoubtedly be very dry. Go out and get some oil.

You could use melted butter or margarine. Or, you could use part oil, and part fruit puree, depending on the recipe. What is the recipe for?

You do NOT need to add the oil at all (or substitute anything) -- it turns out just fine!!
I do it all the time!!

Ohhh... This is an easy one! Applesause. Much healthier and works beautifully! I use it instead of oil for everything- cakes, brownies- you name it.
No- it doesn't come out tasting like apples.
