tinted windows are only good in areas where you get a good outside breeze. THere is a misconception that they keep the heat out, this is not true! The way they work is:
As the suns rays hit the glass it absorbs the heat and holds it for some time, but unless theer is an outside breeze to cool them off they release the heat into the house and they actually cause your house to get hotter than it would without tinted windows, as the heat they store within them is very concentrated.
The would be great by the sea side where you have a nice breeze most of the year. But would be terrible in a desert environment where the air is very still and teh sun very hot.

I have tinted windows on all the windows in all our rooms in the house with high ceilings. Depending on the darkness of the tint, you can cut out alot of summer heat while still allowing a very usable natural light source. I believe we have the lowest tint 'grade' but it does wonders when looking out of those windows on bright days. I couldn't be happier!

You will decrease the resale value of your home, because not everyone likes tinted windows. Put a good quality window that has Low-E (low emissivity) coating and Argon gas. Low-E is not tinting, although it does very slightly change the color of the glass. It helps keep your home cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Argon gas gives the window a slightly higher R value.

Go with clear windows but then install window film. There are lots of benefits to window film such as glare and heat reduction. The film can be removed if you don't like it.
Plus, if you have window film installed in 2007, you may be eligible for a federal tax credit of up to $500. Check out www.filmtechnologies.com for more information.
Be sure to have the film professionally installed. The DIY stuff looks cheap and is hard to install.

We have some in our home. It helps with the gare and is nice in the bedroom. Helps keep it darker, cooler and helps with the energy bill. I also know some one with dark screen on their windows, this does a much better job.
