The Theater now is what used to the Felt Forum in the old Madison Square Garden. It is a smaller, more intimate venue, having only about 5,000 seats as opposed to the 20,000 in the main arena.
If you are going there for a concert, keep in mind that the Theater is very wide and low, and the sight lines in some of the 300 seats, especially on the sides are not very good at all. Try and stay in the center as much as possible!
