Of course the common sense answer is that we were created.
However, as you mention slime, atheists believe that we came from slime (in some imaginary primordial soup) and will return to slime.

With a belief like that what possible reason is there for them not to act like slime?

Why does one exclude the other? The Bible says humans came from the dust of the earth. It also says they were created. Is dust a better raw material than slime??

I was created from a thought that induced my being into a tiny bit of slime. I was followed by people just like you, who eventually crawled through the process of creative evolution until we finally ended up with the human body. (With God's Help, of course.)

you really don't have a choice in the matter.
science speaks for itself. We all come from bactiria which eventually evolved into us today over billions of years.
Mankind or even life was never guaranteed survival. there are times when mankind came closer to extinction than ever before- archaic humans.
And before that in the permian period- almost ALL life was extinguished, anywhere from 90-95% of all the species died out.
sure it might be nice and safe to believe that you have some control over that- and believe in a "plan" but the truth is that you don't. grow up and toss away your "bwankie".
