Ok heres the life-story. A girl in my school recently moved from Cameroon to England to live with foster parents. Shes the sweetest thing on the earth and i love her to bits, i think about her all the time! She recntly became one of my best mates ever and i learnt that she comes from a part of Cameroon that speaks 'BAFANG' also known as 'FE'FE' and 'NUFI'. I also learnt that her dad had left her and her mum when she was young and she hadnt ahd such a great life there, which breaks my heart when i think about it.
I was just wondering, can ANYONE here speak a word of her native language (the language named above :-) ) that i could say to her. She's only ever told me 2 phrases in the language and wont tell me more because she doesnt like it when i dont understand :-P, but when I said the phrases to her her eyes lit up and she looked so happy and I felt like she wanted to keep talking the language. PLEASE ANYONE WHO SPEAKS A WORD OF THIS, PLEASE HELP ME :-(

Sorry, I don't know these languages. Ask her to teach you some words .. start off with nouns / object names like 'water' or 'hair' ... let her get a kick out of you trying to speak her language, and maybe give her a laugh at your pronunciation attempts.

You may be better off trying to find some people from your local African community who then may be able to point you in the right direction e.g. put a notice up in an 'African' deli /grocery store.. Alternatively, try the Cameroon Embassy or some of the links below. Unfortunately Cameroon has 279 + languages, most of which have alternate names. You also might like to try the librarians at a large university in your area.
These links might help a bit.

Link on Cameroon: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cameroon

The Republic of Cameroon is a multilingual country comprising some 247 indigenous languages, one lingua franca (Cameroon Pidgin English) and two official languages (English and French).

These official languages are the heritage of Franco-British rule in the country between the end of the First World War and Independence.

Check out some links... hope they will be of some help.

Otherwise ask your sweetheart to teach you her language as she's probably the best person to ask.
