This is the point at which many Atheists would adopt a deity just in case Hell actually does exist. But I guess those who aren't thinking about it will just swear.
I saw an interesting answer, to which I have responded:
"Why can't an athiest scream "OH GOD"? Wouldn't it make sense for an athiest to scream "OH GOD" while a Christian would scream "OH MY GOODNESS" since taking the name of the Lord in vain is a sin?"
The operative words here are IN VAIN. If a Christian screamed "OH GOD" at this point, it would not be in vain; it would be a prayer for help. Therefore, it would not be a sin.
And Atheist does not mean the opposite of a Christian. So why would an Atheist do something just because it's a sin in Christianity?

a man walking in the forest encountered a hugh grizzly standing upright ready to pounce upon him. "OH GOD HELP ME' he screamed. Everything came to a standstill, the birds quit singing, the creek stopped flowing, and GOD said,"You've been an athiest all your life, why should I listen to you now?" "Your right", replied the man, " that would be so wrong of me to ask for your help now, but, hey, can't you make the grizzly a christian then?" "Hmmm" God replied, "I guess I can" and then......the birds began to sing, the creek began to flow, the grizzly looked at the man, fell to his knees, put his paws together and said " Dear Lord, thank you for this meal I am about to recieve...............

reacting to fear is normal even for an athiest. I'd say that know that their life will end here I'd say yes their more apt to be panicy than a religious person who believes he or she is going to be with their creator. just my opion.

Screaming out obscenities maybe. Screaming out to a God that doesn't exist, I don't think so.

Yes, I do say "oh god!" when things get tough. That doesn't mean I'm praying or necessarily calling on a god. It's just a figure of speech that has been part of my vernacular my whole life.
PS--It's spelled atheist.

I would still yell out "OH GOD!" but it just wouldn't hold that much weight with the Almighty.

Not to be disrespectful, but yelling "Oh God" or "Jesus Christ!" or "Godd*mnit!" has became almost synonymous with yelling things like "Aw crap!", "Sh*t". and "Oh no!". It has nothing really to do with God in an Atheist's case, it is more of just something to yell out in anger, fear or passion.
