and I don't even remember what they were advertising. It had women who were probably size 14 or so dancing around in their underwear. It ended by saying "Because we're not all size 2 supermodels".
People would be outraged if size 2 women were in a commercial that said "Because we're not all size 14".
I get tired of people assuming that people who are size 2 starve themselves and that being a size 14 is better or healthier.
I am proud to say I am a size 2. I eat plenty of food. I make healthy choices and I exercise. I don't appreciate comments like that.

I don't think that they are saying that all people who are size 2 starve themselves, or that people who are size 14 are healthier or better than size 2 people. I think the message is saying that for those who are almost 6 ft tall, weight 100 lbs, that it's ok to be larger size and still be healthy. You have heard of all of the women and young girls who actually have died because they have starved themselves to death trying to become one of these very thin women who are models. Thats the message. Its very scary when young girls are growing up feeling like the only way to be "somebody" is if they starve themselves to the point of malnutrition, or death. And that is exactly what is happening everywhere. But, for the women who are size 2 or near that, and who are naturally thin, are healthy, eat right, etc, etc, thats great! That is wonderful to be that way naturally! Just try to keep in mind that what you are hearing is not about you because you are one of the healthy ones! ~And thank God for that! Bye!

I feel as though the point was not to say who was healthy or who was not healthy the point was to say that people who are a size 14 are not socially excepted that the media portrays that a size to is what is right...they were saying that thier self-esteem is something that they are proud of and that being big is beatiful when most of america thinks that it is ugly. Of course it would offend people if a size 2 person said that that would defeat the whole purpose. the commercial is to say that all people fat,skinny,black,white can have high-self esteem no matter what society or the media say.

I don't think the commercial implies in any way that size 2 women were sick or anorexic. I didn't see anything insulting to smaller women. They are simply stating that it's ok to be size 14 that you can feel just as comfortable as size 2 women. Larger sized people have it a lot tougher than smaller people. Society assumes that overweight people are lazy and pig out all day.

Simply because it is dealing with the fact that many young women strive to be size 2 supermodels and never stop to realize that women who aren't necessarily skinny can still be beautiful. I think that it is a word of encouragement to people with young self esteem or even young girls with eating disorders. I am sure that it was not meant to offend any of the women who are a size 2. I think that it, like all other commericals, can be taken one way or just ignored.

You are right that it's important to be healthy. But you must admit that there is a lot of pressure on women in today's society to be very thin, even when it could be unhealthy for most of us. The commercial you saw must be reacting to that pressure. And surely, since you are a size 2, the commercial wasn't marketing to you. I think it's great that you eat healthy and I wish you a wonderful future.

The reality of society in North America is that you are in a minority and most US and Canadians are larger or over weight.
Self esteem is a major problem for over weight people, I think this ad is to help them with this issue.
Be a little forgiving, you are one of the lucky ones who won't get early diabetes, or heart disease, high blood pressure, etc., etc.
Many, many people find it difficult if not down right impossible to lose weight (look at all of those rediculous promises on the ads for diet pills).

You are right. Groups all over the country would be SCREAMING if skinny women were doing that.

I hear ya! Just because you're tiny doesn't mean you are sick. But in all fairness, it is harder for larger women to find clothes that fit well and look good. Most clothing is targeted to smaller women. I think that is what the ad is trying to say.
