I have been hearing about something for Christian young people, called 'waiting not dating' but I don't really understand it. Something like, being just friends with everyone until you get married or something it's kind of confusing to me. I am almost 17, I am a Christian and I just began dating maybe 6 or 7 months ago, and I am very careful, in fact my dad doesn't even let me kiss until I am engaged....anyway I just want to do what is right in God's eyes. The waiting not dating thing sort of makes sense, and alot of times I feel like just being friends with everyone, but I don't really understand it...If any of you people out there have any more info you can give concerning this subject it would be greatly appreciated!!

you probably won't think my answer is right considering I'm younger, but I think it means to wait for the right one, don't look for a boyfriend[in your case.] Me being a christian too, i would want to what is right in god's eyes as well, so I would take it slow. If anything is thrown your way, and your boyfriend jumps out fo the relationship, it obviously wasn't meant to be. So, don't beat yourself up if you end up not being together[my sister gets mad because she is 17 too, and goes through chick stuff] Take life one step at a time, and with relationships take baby-steps. It's better to have a calm relaxed and honest relationship then a rushed one.

I heard of it...my youth group leader did that but I honestly don't see the point. HOW can you find someone to marry if you don't date?? I dont think dating is bad in God's eyes...just the sexual aspect that a lot of people take it to. How can your dad not let you kiss until you are engaged- how would he know? IN MY OPINION, I don't think dating or kissing are bad things, but if you make your boyfriend your #1 priority, do sexual things, etc then that is. If you don't want to date then yes basically you are just being friends with everyone so I dont see how that could lead to marriage? I guess some people feel like God will place someone in their life...but if you dont date them, I dont see how it could lead anywhere. Kind of like people who think they will meet their husband if they never leave the house.

First, it is a good idea, in theory, but the problem is relationships are needed until you find a one person that you jsut click with and a lot of guys would like to have a girlfriend, not just a girl friend. not many guys are going to propose to a girl they are not dating. it leaves the options to open. how do you know that the guy that you are falling for isnt seeing someone else, since technically he isnt dating you. And i know it is your dad's rule, but the no kissing till you are engaged, many couples share a first kiss after like the third date. And i highly doubt that your mom and dad waited until they were engaged to kiss. it is kind of ridiculous in my opinion.
