The best answer is that it was that we need to keep ALL politicians out off are war room and let the men that are trained to fight the war plan the war. Also it shows that a high-tech army can be bleed by a low-tech army. Also to not put are nose were it dose not belong. This war was not are problem. Why were we their in the first place? That was the reason the people cried out to leave. Too many dead and no true end to the war. Also the media has to be used as an tool. If people see a lot of fighting and no clear victory then their is a problem in the mind of the public.
If anyones going to say I'm not patriotic let me tell you. My family name is in Bronze at the Illinois Memorial at Vicksburg, MS. Both my grandfather fought in WWII and dad was in Germany during THE VIETNAM WAR.

In 1954 Southeast Asia replaced into very risky. there have been lively insurgencies in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines besides as Indochina. It replaced into feared via the Eisenhower administration that basically letting the Communist proceed unchecked would desire to hold approximately chinese language and/or Soviet intervention and a great scale conflict (the Domino concept). And, in 1954, this replaced into no longer an idle possibility. South Vietnam replaced into the kingpin. If it fell each and every little thing around it replaced into in possibility. So, we made a stand in South Vietnam. in the 20 years we stood no longer ordinary issues replaced in the the remainder of SEA. The insurgencies have been all positioned down, the international places all outfitted good (if no longer constantly well-known) substantial governments, and their economies all took off making the ensures of Communism much less captivating. everybody even have been given a good look at the socioeconomic failure that replaced into North Vietnam. in the top, whilst South Vietnam fell, so did Laos and Cambodia (hence validating the consumer-friendly theory in the back of the Domino concept). yet (and it fairly is a substantial "yet") the the remainder of Southeast Asia replaced into good adequate to stand as much as the entice of Communist insurgencies, so...particular, the Vietnam conflict DID accomplish its ordinary objective. It held the Communists off long adequate to look after the the remainder of SEA and stop a substantial conflict that could have long gone nuclear if it had no longer been stopped.

The same thing that we forgot from the French and Indian War: Standard military tactics are useless against an opponent who utilizes guerrilla warfare.
Street to street and house to house fighting is very resource consumptive, where the movements of tank colums or infantry divisions in mass warfare is much more basic and has wiggle room. Also, a large, cumbersome force can be whittled down by a small, highly mobile team.

The biggest lesson from the Vietnam War could had been that the U.S. cannot win in a conventional war. It can only win any war if it used its nuclear arsenal (as what happened to Japan).
Another lesson is that the U.S. must be sure to have valid and moral reasons to go to war. Embarking on a war for dubious and queastionable reasons will never get support from the rest of the world, let alone from its own population.

We've learned a lot. We support the military, spitting on them is not tolerated. We learned that an all volunteer force is a good thing. We learned about better military equipment and more training saves lives. We learned that emboldening the enemy gets more soldiers killed. We learned the media still uses death to sell its story.

Don't fight a half-assed war. We never lost a battle in Vietnam, but we lost the war. Our military was not allowed to fight to win. The same thing happened in Korea and it looks like it might be happening again now in Iraq.

To stay the H*** out of other peoples business and religion. To not try to help people who don't want help, to allow Generals to run wars if we insist on having them and to take care of our VETS after we have screwed thier live up.
