If it broke, would I have to send it back to USA, that would be quite a chore ! Thanks, Tim

It would be considered a grey import and your warrantee would only be valid in the USA.
(Not in case of a global recall, as described above.)

It depends. I have a D70 which I bought in the USA several years ago. I have never had it break in the sense that I did something to break it. But last year Nikon issued a service notice because of a defect in the design or manufacture. After checking with the US service department they assured me that this was a world-wide service order and that my local repair outfit would repair it. I live in Spain and must admit I was a tad sceptical. But surprise, surprise I sent it in and they repaired and returned it to me with no problems and no charges.

contact nikon to be sure
I assume a 12 month warranty
and place that nikon approves of
check on nikon website
