no I don't think rum can go bad. You said it was opened and then sitting for a year. I hope you did put cap ontop after it was opened. IT should be Fine*

If kept out of direct sunlight and at room temperature, it can last up to two years after opened with little to no effect on taste or alcohol content.

It can't go bad if you mean causing food poisoning, but it can oxidize after opening and not taste very good. This can take weeks or months though.
