What is the difference between blue-ray disks and DVDs?

Blue-ray disks sound awsome but I don't know what they are. If anyone knows please tell me.

ostensibly BluRay is being put forward to offer HD content - what people aren't aware of is that along with the competitor HD-DVD (which is alreadyshaping up into a VHS vs. Betamax war) both offerings include robust "anti-piracy" protocols taht even include updating firmware to prevent playing waht the consortium may decide is an "unauthorized" format..

pretty big-brother and a defintie killjoy if you intend to play ripped movies

blue rays are hi def and will NOT work on a regular dvd player.
