God chose the Nation of Israel as his special people by which he would fulfill his covenant with Abraham. Once they came out of Egypt, he gave them the Law Covenant/Mosaic Law in order to remind them of their NEED for a true Redeemer. The redeemer was Jesus, whose death made adherence to the Mosaic law unnecessary. The Law only applied to Jews and Jewish proselytes (converts) in the first place, and after Jesus' death it became nullified. Christians were to follow the law of love, which Jesus empasized (loving God with your entire essence and your neighbor as yourself) to be the basis of the Law and the Prophets. The Mosaic Law is what was replaced, but the OT in its entirety is still very relevant information.

You seem to ignore the next verse, Matthew 5:18, where Jesus PREDICTS THE END OF THE LAW...
Jesus said he didn’t come to destroy the law, but to fulfill it. (Matt 5:17) The effect was the same. Once fulfilled it was no longer in effect. The very next verse, Matthew 5:18, looks forward to the time when the law would be set aside. "...Not even the smallest stroke of a pen will disappear from the Law UNTIL EVERYTHING IS COMPLETED." This “UNTIL” clause reinforces the temporary nature of the law. It ONLY makes sense when we understand that it was to be set aside.
Ephesians 2:15 Through his body on the cross, Christ put an end to the LAW WITH ALL ITS COMMANDS AND RULES. He wanted to create one new group of people out of the two. He wanted to make peace between them.
Colossians 2:14 He wiped out the written Law with its rules. The Law was against us. It opposed us. He took it away and nailed it to the cross.
Galatians 2:16 ...No one can be made right with God by obeying the law.
Galatians 2:21 ...What if a person could become right with God by obeying the law? Then Christ died for nothing!
Galatians 5:4 Some of you are trying to be made right with God by obeying the law. You have been separated from Christ. You have fallen away from God’s grace... The ONLY verse that talks about falling from grace, and they did it by trying to follow the law!
On the cross, Jesus' last recorded saying, "It is finished," is an important milestone. Because of Jesus life, Satan had been defeated. The law was finished and would no longer stand between God and mankind.
The 10 commandments along with the rest of the law ("commands and rules" from Ephesians 2:15) were "set aside" when they were fulfilled or completed at Jesus' resurrection. We are no longer bound by that law.
... BUT it is NOT UNIMPORTANT:
Romans 15:4 Everything that was written in the past was written to teach us. The Scriptures give us strength to go on. They cheer us up and give us hope. 5 Our God is a God who strengthens you and cheers you up. May he help you agree with each other as you follow Christ Jesus.

In all actuality when U get out of the OT, the story NT repeats or confirms the OT. But what U said is just a partial of keeping the law, there's more to it then just that, Like for instance" the 10 Commandments, Dietary laws and cleanliness laws as well as the laws of the lords Holy Days.

It appears we have a point of contention among the Christians.
We have the ones that want the old testament laws. The ones that don't want the old testament laws.
They both say they believe in Jesus.
Which ones do you think are correct?
We have the ones that think that by doing the works of the law they are going to get to heaven.
We have the others that say, "I only have to believe".
The works will come automatically.
So now we have THE WORKERS OF THE LAW.
The Believers in Jesus. Oh, by the way, I mean I believe that Jesus did it all.
Nothing I can do will add to what He did.
I think we have two schools of thought.
I wonder witch one is right.
I wonder if you can be justified by the works of the law.
WRONG!

kind of contradicts a pretty crucial passage in deuteronomy 13:1, doesn't it?
"Everything I command you that you shall be careful to do it. You shall neither add to it, nor subtract from it."
then it goes on to talk about how a false prophet will arise who will perform miracles and try to lead the jews away from the law and what does G-d say about all this?
deut 13:4-5 - "You shall not heed the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of a dream; for the Lord, your God, is testing you, to know whether you really love the Lord, your God, with all your heart and with all your soul. You shall follow the Lord, your God, fear Him, keep His commandments, heed His voice, worship Him, and cleave to Him."

Jesus came to fulfil all the old testament prophesy. The laws of the OT show us our need of a Savior. Jesus tells us that if we love our fellow man and God then the law is kept in us. If we stumble He forgives us.

I think biblically lazy people - as in people who don't want to read the whole bible - use that "NT replaces the OT" babble. It does not. A good Christian reads the bible in its entirety.
