I feel same way. When ever I gain "hope",it is crushed.

This is more common than you would think. People tend to expect the worst based on experiences they or others have had. Many relationships are ruined by people expecting similar experiences or treatment from previous relationships for example. The best way to look at this is certainty. You can guarantee you will certainly die. One day you will die and you can do nothing to change that. Everything in your life is uncertain. You will experience good times, you will experience bad times, what they are is uncertain. In many ways life is like one big roller-coaster, plenty of ups and downs. Sometimes your whole life is turned upside down, others a long boring straight, or a rest if you like. There is no need to hope, just to live. Live the best you can, do everything you want, travel, explore, start a family, whatever. Life is for living, one big learning experience. I felt like that once, scared to love or move on. It consumed nearly 10 years of my life. Now my life couldn't be so different, I now live with my fiance and spend my time diving with sharks, mountaineering and travelling when I'm not working. All childhood dreams, a far throw from how I used to be, feeling sorry for myself. Don't concentrate on all what could of been's, LIVE LIFE.

My daughter is this way - she has been through so much trauma in her life that she gets stressed when things are going good. It's like she is so used to stress & chaos that she can't deal with it when it's calm.
When I figured this out, I would distract with something. Like start on a project at home. It would add in enough stress (good stress is still stress) that she could focus on it. Well, most of the time, anyway...
Now I've explained all this to her so she knows, and when things are too calm I try to help her find something to take up her time & attention.

I worry (sometimes reducing myself to tears), that I am gonna lose my boyfriend, when the truth is we're fine. It's just a long distance thing. I worry that if I hope too much I will be let down, & if I hope, wish & pray I will get kicked in the teeth again. xxx

Nope. Enjoy the good times, forget the bad ones and hope tomorrow is a better day.

I can completely understand. I never seem to experience a middle ground. I'm either very happy or in despair (and it's not biological because I am not bipolar, though I do take medication... it is something about my personality where i always see things in extremes.)

Nothing lasts forever. i do find myself panicking, i nearly feel there is something wrong with me when im feeling ok, i kinda wonder, whats coming next!?
