We are having a luncheon at church the Sunday after St. Patrick's Day. We like to make everything festive and try to make foods that are green. But everyone has requested that I make my cheese and bacon dip, can I add green food coloring to it to make it green? Do you think it will alter the taste? Or does anyone have any good ideas on what to make? Thank You

There are only 2 Irish people in my church and they make the soda bread and cabbage. You can eat anything you want on St. Patty's Day. Thank you everyone for your ideas.

Since your friends insist on the cheese and bacon dip, rather than coloring it and perhaps getting a funky result, how about just making it as usual and then topping it with some chopped green onions. Sounds like an appropriate addition to me and will add some nice green without messing with the recipe that everyone so enjoys.

Make a spinach dip...thats green...and if you want it greener you can add green food coloring to the sour cream. And serve with celery sticks.

1 cup mayonnaise
1 (16 ounce) container sour cream
1 (1.8 ounce) package dry leek soup mix
1 (4 ounce) can water chestnuts, drained and chopped
1/2 (10 ounce) package frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained
1 (1 pound) loaf round sourdough bread
In a medium bowl, mix together mayonnaise, sour cream, dry leek soup mix, water chestnuts and chopped spinach. Chill in the refrigerator 6 hours, or overnight.
Remove top and interior of sourdough bread. Fill with mayonnaise mixture. Tear removed bread chunks into pieces for dipping.

You should be making soda bread, corned beef and cabbage, boiled potatoes and veg. You don't have cheese and bacon dip for St. Patty's Day!!!!???

I think you could add food coloring to dye it , it shouldn't change the taste at all. Some dark food colorings like red can be bitter.

food coloring wont alter the taste but you may want to include a cute little paper with clovers on it to inform the people what it is
