Travel alone.
Singapore Airlines upgraded me and I went first class all the way to Singapore and it was fab. I was told that it was because I was travelling solo.

There is no trick, I got married last September , but we had paid for the Thompson wedding package so i thought that meant free up grade on the plane as we where getting married in the Caribbean but oh no i done everything apart from wearing my wedding dress to fly in, but all we got was a free glass of wine. Never mind we bought a bottle of champagne and got drunk, X

wait til the last few mins of boarding to get into line. it is likely that there are some free seats which late passengers havent filled. if not, then sit down in the plane until just before takeoff and ask. there are ALWAYS spaces in first class. it wont cost them anything to bump you up so just ask. also at this point there will be no late arrivals so they cant turn you away by saying that 'what if mr. so and so comes...'

Best way to get an upgrade is to smile sweetly, speak politely and just ask, all they can do is say yes or no, good luck hope your next flight will be upgraded to first class.

Try using Dr. next time you book! =) Teacher of mine has done it before - well he really is a doctor but of course people assume he is a medical doctor and he just doesn't bother to correct them!! =D
