I've being feeling sad for no reason lately and I feel withdrawn. I can't afford therapy myself and my parents i know won't pay for it and I don't like my guidance counsular. Any advice? DO I even need therapy?

Dont let your parents talk you out of it. My parents wanted me to do it and i did and it helped but it wasn't the right kind of therapy. If you feel sad and think negatively about everything cognitive behavioral therapy can help sometimes even when its in a group. I live a couple minutes from Yale Hospital, near the college and they are the only people i will ever trust with myself for anything. Research a certified group in your area. You just dont want to go to any independent place which might be given to you by your insurance company.

If you have a specific problem you should seek some guidance, but don't get roped into long term therapy sessions, there are some things you need to deal with yourself. Feelings of sadness and isolation are not that unusual at any age, focus on a new activity, exercise, hobby, new language, etc. learning to get out from under the blue funk by yourself will make you feel that much better.

Therapy is great if you are willing to go along with it.There's nothing wrong with needing/wanting help.It doesn't make you weak.I used to go to therapy and it helped me alot.Even a school counselor would be a big help.
About your parents telling you they should tell them your problems...well,sometimes the problems involve them.Therapists
are trained to help reflect back to you your subconscious feelings that are usually the cause.Plus,it helps that they aren't involved in other aspects of your life.If there's no way you can convince them
to pay for it,you can still figure it out on your own.Writing in journals helps me.

I imagine that you are in your teens. Your body is going through many emotional, physical and psychological changes, and, that is perfectly normal. What isn't normal, is if it goes on for any prolonged period of time. I can understand your wanting to talk to someone about it. In my career as a Certified Christian Counselor, just listening and sharing, is the bulk of my ministry. I do suggest that you seek a mature individual that can offer you wisdom and sound advice. If you find someone, I would strongly suggest that you discuss your discovery, and ask for your parents blessing. And, if necessary, their involvement, should you desire. There are some counselors that do pro bo'no work, myself included, either in person, by phone or on-line. I hope that you find what you are looking for.

Good luck, and God Bless.

It's perfectly normal to feel that way as a teenager, and as long as you know that and don't try to kill yourself, you'll be fine without it. It's just a slightly harder road, but you will grow stronger because of it. I went through the same thing and never went to therapy.

Talk with a friend or a teacher other than your councillor.

The fact that you can articulate your need is a really good sign.

Yes you should talk to someone other than your parents. I had the same problem but I talked to my friends and they mad me feel happier. So talk to you friends about it or try to talk to your counselor.
