If your periods are irregular, you may not be ovulating. Best to go to a gynecologist to check out why your periods aren't regular, she will do some tests, hormonal and other, to try find out, then work on correcting anything amiss.

Absolutely. An irregular period doesn't mean that you're not ovulating. My period come every 24 to 34 days and I've managed to get pregnant twice without trying. In fact, having an irregular period can in some ways make you more likely to get pregnant in that it's not so easy to figure out your "safe" time.
