Here you are I am not sure how far away this place is from you but is in Northern Virgina.

Sen B is doesn't realize that Sunni simply means we follow th Qu'ran AND Sunnah, I understand her viewpoint, but Sunni's do not add anything, and the only reason we have to call ourselves this is to differentiate between Shia who did invent things in religion. I am personally opposed to stating I am a Sunni Muslim, rather I call my self Muslim (ie one who submits to God alone)

Since I am a full-time University Student, I cannot enroll in an Islamic Studies institution, but I try my best to study at home from the proper sources.

I HIGHLY recommend, this set of books. It is called the Tafsir of Ibn Kathir, this man was a great scholar who lived almost 800 years ago. He was a Hafiz (memorized the entire Qu'ran) and a Qadi (had very thorough knowledge of the Sunnah - the hadith), also he wrote a commentary on the Qu'ran which is VERY thorough and explains with supporting hadith and has its sources listed in a scholarly manner.

The collection is a little expensive about 200 dollars with shipping,
but it is well worth it.

As a Muslim myself i would ask why you would want to put yourself in a sect when it is clearly against the teachings of Islam. Study Islam simple as that. As Muslims we are to add nothing and take nothing away we are not to separate or put ourselves into sects.


I'm sorry if some misunderstood my answer. I know exactly what Sunni means it is simply those that follow the Quran and Sunnah. Asking where you can study sunni islam is redundant in itself because in learning islam it is from the Quran and sunnah and does not therefor need to be enfesised. By studing Islam it is sunni. I never said sunnah is adding or taking anything away i was refering to saying sunni islam which is adding something before the word Islam which is not nessecary as by definition following the quran and sunnah is sunni. I am a muslim studing the quran and sunnah, i never refer to it as studing sunni islam its a redundant statment as of course it is sunni. I was talking in the sense of refering to yourself as a sunni muslim and how "others" see it as a sect. Look anywhere and people state there are two major sects in Islam Sunni and Shiite. Even though any muslim knows this statment is not true as Sunni is not a sect it simply means following the Quran and Sunnah "others" see it as such. Thank you brother but i know exactly what it means i'm sorry if the first point i made was unclear. Apologies for any misunderstanding. We are all one Ummah and i will not put any other word infront of Muslim not moderate not sunni not sufi. If others choose to do so that is there perogative. Go to your local mosque to study Islam as it is sunni there is no other kind.
