I have a Ford Fiesta Encore 1997 and it seems that the accelerator is sticking, in the sense that when I take my foot of the pedal the engine keeps on going. As you can probably tell this can be quite scary when edging out onto a junction but other than that it's not causing a problem other than being a nuisance. Has anybody else had a problem like this and if so what needs to be done? The engine has cut out a few times too, only seems to happen when still though, such as waiting at a junction etc is this in any way connected?

Came across this problem twice before on fiestas. You will have to replace the throttle cable and have your engine ground repaired. The connection between the battery and the engine has disconnected itself and when you start the engine, the car uses the throttle cable as the ground. The steel wire heats up and melts the plastic sleeve it slides in causing the cable to stick. This also causes the engine to stall at idle erratically.

Is it actually the pedal thats not returning to normal position or is the engine reving higher then it should when you release it, if its the pedal the lead from it is sticking on something, this could be quite easy to trace yourself. if its the engine reving higher at random points, it probably something like the idle control valve. im not sure where its located on a fiesta, but this can also be a quick fix if you can find it, as its a case of taking apart and cleaning it. or just having it replaced, neither id imagine to be expensive on an old car

Yeah you have something stuck and messed with the accel. cable....I wouldn't wait much longer to take it to someone to fix it. That could be a bad thing if you clock someone in an intersection.

donate the car to charity and take a sledge hammer to it, or push it over a cliff and claim the $25.00 insurance money.
