well I've seen so many misunderstandings about the Old Testament Around here..
Many people don't Understand that the Old Testament is based on The LAW Given to moses SPECIFICALLY FOR The ISRAEL in that time!!
Now in these times we live in The Grace time - which means that everything written in The New testament is doctrine!! and everything that is written in The Old testament is a reference and MOST of the things written in the old testament are symbolic!!
for example:
people say that " The parents stoned his children if they disobeyed them"
well this Law was specially written is the Mosaic Law for the Jewish only!! not for us because we are called the gentiles The bible says that we no longer live under the Law but under the Grace!!
so when people say and write passages like that it clearly shows me that they don't have a clue of what they're saying!!
Many of the things in the OLD TESTAMENT WERE ABOLISHED IS NOT DOCTRINE THAT WE HAVE TO FOLLOW !!
GOT IT!!

Well, fellow traveler on the bumpy road, 96%+ of the people not only don't understand the Old Testament, they don't understand the New Testament as well.
Jesus did not say "when in doubt, go ask Moses." Neither did Jesus say, "when in doubt, go ask Paul or Kevin or the fiery preacher in the tent on the corner."
Jesus said "When in doubt, read what I said." In any contest of any kind, for any follower who considers themselves a Christian, Jesus is law. When in Rome, you follow Roman law, you don't bring Chaldean law up from the basement and say "Well, this says something I like better, so I'll follow that instead."
I am not a Christian, but by seeing and observing the actions of those who call themselves such, neither am I inclined to join.

Everything written in the New Testament is doctrine???--ok---when was the last time you shaved a Christian females hair off for being in church without a veil covering her head--or don't you believe in obeying Gods doctrine??
1 Corinthians11:5 But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.
11:6 For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn

The point is not whether or Christian theology says we don't have to abide by those laws any longer.
The point is that God supposedly created those laws. He could have created any laws he wanted to create - he could have created any culture he wanted to create.
He chose to create a culture of cruelty, genocide, and malevolence, and yet just because, "We don't have to do it anymore," Christians insist that he is good and benevolent.
For example, the OT says that if a man rapes a woman, they must be married. God could have said, "If a woman is raped, you shall consider her as being a virgin still, and you shall not look upon her any differently."
That would have been benevolent. But, no... instead he says to have her marry her rapist.
It doesn't matter that it was a long time ago and "we don't have to do that anymore." What matters is that those things were NEVER moral, were NEVER right, and should NEVER have been part of a "good" God's laws.

Jesus himself said that he was not come to abolish the Law and the Prophets but to FULFILL them. It was Paul's vision IN Antioch that allowed the followers of Jesus to preach to those who DID NOT follow Mosaic Law.
It was a big controversy in the early church, and is described in the New Testament book of Acts as well as the 4 included Gospels.

These are Jesus words.
Matthew 5: 17, 18
Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets; I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For verily, I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law till all be fulfilled.
Sorry to disagree but heaven and earth are still here.
Edit: I agree that the mosaic laws regarding the sacrifice are no longer binding because of Calvary. That is why we no longer sacrifice lambs. That does not mean that the old testament laws given by God to man through Moses or that the admonitions given by the old testament prophets are no longer valid.

Why would be unable to it fairly is the two? Why would be unable to the two be stunning? perhaps God DID create the earth in 7 days, yet he basically did it 4.5 billion years in the past. Christians in maximum situations are very stressful to sway from the Bible. i'm in no way ripping on Christianity, yet i don't be responsive to the way they could't see that the Bible replaced into written by skill of guy, and guy is fallible. perhaps there replaced right into some blunders in it. Regardless, the prevalent message the Bible provides, it rather is "do good" is often obtrusive. i assume my factor is that no one needs to compromise on the two side. it rather is unhappy because of the fact no longer something will rather replace till they do.

I'm in the other 5%, and I agree with you. But abolish is a strong word: the Old Testament was fulfilled by Jesus, basically its laws no longer apply, but lessons can still be learned from it.

You can only say that if Jesus was the Messiah, which he was not since he violated the prophecies of the Messiah which are found in the Old Testament.
The New Testament is invalid.
-----------
Not even HaMosiach would have authority to create a new covenant, being nothing more than a man.
So even assuming Jesus were HaMosiach, he would be an invalid giver of a new covenant, only G-D can.

Oh, okay, thanks for clearing that up. Since the 10 Commandments were in the Old Testament, and Mosaic law was abolished by the New Testament, I can now go out and kill people at will, dishonor my parents, steal, bear false witness, sleep around, and make graven images. Thanks! Wheeeee! I can't wait to get started!

I agree with you that people don't understand it. For the most part the old covenant shows the need for a new one. The Laws that still stand are the ones dealing with morals.....like thou shalt not kill, etc.... the civil and ceremonial laws pertained to the Israelites and not us today. But it takes studying to know which is which. And what we are supposed to learn from.
