I've always wanted to travel NY. I live in Canada and 16 years old. Would it be safe for me? or not?

Definitely don't go by yourself. Being by yourself makes you a much easier target.

But don't worry NYC is very safe these days. There really isn't much to worry about. You should definitely visit. Have fun.

A lot depends on how mature you are. It is safe to travel in New York as long as you keep your wits about you. Stay away from obvious trouble spots, make sure you have a place to stay before you arrive, be aware of your surroundings at all times. One safe way is to take organized tours.

New York is a big city with lots of crime. But like most crimes, they are much more prevalent among drug users, gang members, etc.

Are you parents okay with you doing this at your age?

While it can look quite dangerous on the surface (it's much dirtier than any Canadian city), New York is one of the safest cities in the United States. If you've been to central Toronto, it's really a lot like that. If you just use simple common sense, you'll be fine.

I'd recommend going with a friend.
