Either you give them something perishable:
* favorite food
* favorite drink
* an outing they always planned, but never found the time
or you go for something permanent.
In the last case I would suggest one of those:
* something typical for the area they are leaving now
* something they might find useful for their stay in Vietnam, like a dictionary.
* something useful for the move, like a book about international relocations
* something fun for the travel
Make sure that your gift is relatively small to avoid increasing their moving costs.

Something light would be best. Airlines are strict with the weight limits. Maybe they'd like some international calling cards, or a pocket Vietnamese-English dictionary. You could offer to ship over some favorite local foods or tapes of tv shows after they've been there a month or two.

How about a travel book for the country they're going to? They may have one already, but you could try to find a unique one. Or you could get something like the book called "1,000 Places to See Before You Die" and if there's something in there from Vietnam, you could bookmark it for them? (http://www.amazon.com/000-Places-See-Before-You/dp/0761104844)
Or how about a scrapbook to hold all the new pictures they'll take? Or give them something from their current hometown (whether it's a knickknack or picture book), so that way they'll always remember where they came from when they feel homesick.
Or . . . you could give them a calling card (always handy for international calls).
Hope that helped or sparked some ideas of your own.

Ask for their new address, then when they are a bit more settled you can send them something more personal. Moving to another country is very unnerving, give them time to settle in so that they can enjoy your gift.

I would suggest money. Stuff is just going to be more that they have to pack. The electrical outlets are different in each country, so you can't give them appliances. Money is the best idea.

Definately money. If they are moving to another country, I am sure they will be getting rid of stuff. They don't need more junk to add to their pile.

Maybe a nice picture frame and a picture of you as a nice gesture or something engraved with their name of initials in it.
