Hi. I am a 16 year old female and I get stressed out very easily. Like over nothing, i am always stressed out. I also I think I have a mild OCD. I have for as long as I remember. Is there any medication out there to help me with both?

There are alot of psychotropic medicines that could help you immensely, but all they will do is make you feel "blah" most of the time. I suggest meditation. Sit quietly in a lowlit room and take ten slow deep breaths... and count them. If you can make it to 10 without your thoughts straying to boys or something, work on making it to 20. Extremely relaxing! Your hormones are raging right now because of your age. Give it a few years before you see any psych doctors to get meds. Get rid of the soda pop if you drink it and drink 8 glasses of water a day.

Yes there are lots, but at 16 I question why you would need psy meds. I think that first you (family/DR) should figure out why you are stressed. I personaly would lv 2 know what a 16yr old has to be stressed out about. From there with therapy you should be able to make the situation work for you. Meds are not always the answer. You need to find the under laying cause. From a medical Pro!

I would strongly recommend against any psychoactive drugs unless absolutely necessary. If you have problems with stress, speak with a psychologist about developing techniques and methods to deal with your stress, and live a healthier lifestyle in a natural way. Popping a pill to alleviate symptoms does nothing to help the root problem, it merely deadens the negative effects of that problem.

Note that in the case of psychotic disorders, such as schizoid disorders, medication is indeed quite necessary. I'm speaking against taking medication when alternative methods would be more beneficial (even if they would require some effort).

The medications most likely to be prescribed for OCD (both of which help with anxiety) are Luvox (an SSRI) and Anafranil (a tricyclic), but the effectiveness of the meds tends to be modest for OCD and psychotherapy is critical, tho you may likely not necessarily have OCD and therapy may well be adequate.

The stress and OCD go together. There is medication and therapy. go to a licensed doctor or therapist (I don't know what your insurance situation is) and get help. Quit suffering. Good luck.

Before going for drugs, I'd suggest you change your diet and also make some lifestyle changes. My guess is you either don't eat properly, or eat a lot of packaged, processed foods. Do you also skip breakfast, or eat something like a granola bar instead?

Speak to your doctor first. If your doctor feels it's justified, you may be referred to mental health services for screening by a mental health professional - most likely a psychologist. Consider counseling before medication. If it's decided that you would also benefit from short-term medication therapy, it will be prescribed for you by a psychiatrist.

Yep. But, be forwarned, most people go through 2 or 3 medications before they find one that works for them. Zoloft has done wonders for me, but I thought that I was going to lose my mind on Paxil. I've heard the exact opposite stories from others....that Zoloft was horrible, but Paxil has been a miracle. It just depends on the person. Just make sure you keep up good communication with your doctor, and you should be able to find something that works for you.
