The male is in there during the day. The female at night. But, the male will come out sometimes during the day and just perch and preen with the female. Do they have to stay on the egs 24/7 or do they take little breaks?

They don't need to sit on the eggs 24/7. They take breaks especially if the day is warm. They need to feed, preen and sometimes take baths to wet their feathers and keep the eggs moist. Trust them, they will know what to do. The eggs should start to hatch in about 21 days. If they aren't fertile they will abandon them a few days after this and probably lay a new batch soon after. Make sure you give them a good quality seed and or pellets, some fresh fruit and veggies and fresh water every day. A cuttle bone for calcium is also a good idea. Have a look at the site below, lots of good advice on breeding, feeding and photos.

they can take short breaks. only 2 ways 2 tell if incubation is working first is 2 wait and see if they hatch second is 2 candle them (shine bright light through egg) DONT discard eggs though cos u can never be sure
