if its a 96 its 50 50 between a mk5b or a mk 6 the last version made. the easiest tell tale sign is the oval grill on the bonnet..

ita a mark 6. I had a 1995 M reg one and that was a mark 5. If it has the oval clock in the cantre of the dash and a 4 spoke steeringwheel then it is a mark 6 if not its a mark 5.

It is a mk6 but the mk6 was only a revision of the mk5 rather than a whole new design so some may regard it as a facelifted mk5.

If it has the large oval grille it is a mk 5
If it has the small oval grille it is a mk 6
