why do people in the medical field think they can just be RUDE and not want to help. If you can't deal with the public in a good manner I think the medical field would be the worst job for you especially when someone is dying. This is not to ALL because I ran into the nicest nurse who wanted to help out and tried his hardest so I know some of you are good Thanks but to the rude one get a different JOB!

I'm a nurse and you are right. I'm so sorry for your situation and I hope things get better for you. I think they truly forget that you all pay our salaries and we are there to serve you and the public. I learned a long time ago to treat people as I want to be treated. It is hard enough that you and all patients are worried about what's going on, that they don't need some rude know it all nurse to act so ignorantly towards people. Again I am sorry and I work in health care because I want to make a difference in people lives. I have worked 8 years in trauma. After seeing all I have seen, I not only appreciate life but feel it is a honor to have been a part of these people lives and do everything in my power to help and make the world a better place. Take care and I wish you all the best. Kina

Boy oh boy!! This is a subject that needs to be addressed. It goes for all in medical fields including doctors. As a cancer survivor and also a former RN Ihave seen both sides. I quit in the late 80's as today I would be fired for speaking my mind to my rude Co workers. When I saw the patients being treated badly, given the wrong medication, or otherwise maltreated, I was reprimanded. Why because it made the hospital, doctor, clinic look bad.You were told to keep quiet. Not in every case but especially if a doctor was involved.
Empathy has gone out the window in many cases. Short staff, deadlines, Theories that natural medicine is not good and anyone interested is a crackpot! Doctors are actually taught in med school how to be more like lawyers "Billable hours".
There are many lovely people in the medical field but the y are often jumped on for taking too much time with the patient. I was fortunate to have a whole crew of wonderful people but there area always a few. I did politely stand up for myself and that helped. Also people giveing care, who have never been ill, had loved ones in the same situation, or have a clue of what the patient is suffering, are so blase`, they truly do not understand and their little selfish spirit does not want to. There is also the bottom line of the hospital and clinic. I think people in general are loosing their way. Not just in the medical field but all service industries. It is just that in the medical field when you are dying you want a little compassion. Religion or spirituality is being seen as bad. (That always helped in peoples attitude to do better)
The teachings in schools and universities is how can the "ME" be satisfied. Now on the other hand I have met wonderful strangers who have helped me and been so kind. So there are still some out there who do care and try hard!!

I agree.

There is a popular medical series on TV - HOUSE - where the protagonist is very intelligent but has no bedside manner. I hate the show. Brilliance is no excuse for rudeness.

Speaking of which, we are all influenced to a certain extent by television, and many programs from Springer to soaps to sitcoms thrive on rudeness. They are bad models for interpersonal relationships. Treat people the way you want them to treat you. Pardon my soapbox!

because people in the medical field have to go thru 10 or so years of schooling just to deal with sic people all day long ... i agree they should be nicer to the public seing thats the profession they chose .... but if you got lied to / puked on / hit / cussed at / over and over again every day you wouldn't be that nice either.

Watch an episode of House woman .... gawd
