Ask them for a liquid medication, a good one is called Meloxicam.

Truthfully, accupuncture. It really works miracles for pets. I highly recommend it. It's worked for my dogs and cats that have had arthritis problems.

As for getting her to take the pill, can you wrap it up in a piece of fish or something that she'll swallow in one gulp? Or ask the vet for a liquid if you can't get the pill back on her tongue far enough so she won't spit it out. You might want to try cutting the pill in half as well, that way it won't be so easy for her to spit it out.

Good luck to you and I hope your baby feels better soon!

There's a product call a pill gun, sometimes also called a pill popper. Vet hospitals use these all the time when we have a difficult animal to pill. You can also try hiding it in food but cats are very sneaky and usually figure it out. Also make sure you have someone help you so you're not struggling to hold her and pill her at the same time.

Cosequin For Cats.

It's a glucosamine chondroitin supplement that comes in capsules that you open and sprinkle the powder on their food. It supposedly has a chicken and fish taste, but I tasted it and couldn't detect any taste at all. Both of my late great Boys, who were extremely fussy about anything in their food, accepted it willingly.

You can get at at http://www.Healthypets.com in the joint supplements section.

Be sure to order Cosequin for Cats. The original Cosequin is a dog product.

This stuff is like a miracle cure. My Scooter was so stiff with arthritis that he was having great difficulty going down stairs. Within a few weeks I saw a marked improvement, and within a couple months he was running up and down the stairs like a kitten again. When I noticed Rusty starting to slow down and seeming reluctant to jump down from the windowsill I started him on it and within a few weeks he was as good as new. I have heard many other stories of remarkable success with Cosequin.

Arthritis is the result of the loss of cartilage, which lubricates joints. Rheumatoid arthritis is an immune system disorder that results in cartilage loss, while osteoarthritis is cartilage loss due to wear and tear on the joints from years of use. Cosequin promotes carrtilage growth; it's curative for osteoarthritis and provides symptomatic relief for rheumatoid arthritis.

I dont know about the pills, but when my first cat got older I changed the house to make it easier for her to reach things she needs. For instance I slid the mattress over to reveal 6-8 inches of box springs so she did not have to climb all the way up. You can also make or purchase ramps for them to walk up to places where the could once jump easily.

You cant get rid of it, just like in humans, it can only be controlled. You need to hold her top jaw and put the pill right at the back of the throat, then she cant spit them out or try squashing it up and put it in vegemite (they love it) and dont even know.

Arthritis is no more curable in cats than it is humans. When you give her the pill, try cupping your hand somewhere around her mouth and when she spits it out pop it back in. We have to do the same thing for our dog who has arthritis in his hip. Good luck! I hope your kitty gets better.

Take her to the vet again, and let them show you how to pill the cat. It's easy once you know how.

Or use the instructions on this web page:

unfortunately there is no cure for arthritis, the best way to give the tablets to your cat would be to crush them up and mix them into the cats food.
