If I was to come stay for the weekend, I'd look into staying at Salishan Resort just south of Lincoln City on the Oregon Coast. there is lots to do at the resort itself, but if that's not enough, you could take in the sights in Lincoln City, travel south to Newport, or even drive to Portland or Salem for the day without having to fight the traffic going in the other direction.

Here's some information on Salishan:
"Located near the town of Gleneden Beach on the stunning central Oregon Coast, Salishan offers a complete vacation resort experience. And whether you visit for a day or a week, Salishan has everything you need to escape to a world of beauty, comfort, and first-rate recreation and entertainment during your Pacific Northwest vacation."

If Salishan is out of your price range, you might look look at Beachcomers Haven, also in Gleneden beach. Here's some more information:

"When you plan your next vacation, family reunion, business conference, sewing/beading/quilting retreat, or weekend getaway, we hope you'll think about staying at Beachcombers Haven Vacation Rentals here on the Oregon Coast.

You'll discover our lovely little community of Gleneden Beach tucked in between Highway 101 and the ocean. Right outside our front door you can easily walk directly to the beach.

Our units have complete kitchens, roomy living rooms with TVs, DVD's, CD players, VCRs, and wood stoves or fireplaces. We have 1, 2 or 3 bedrooms, some with a Hot Tub or in-room Jacuzzis. We provide ironed sheets and linen service, and we have a laundry room for your convenience. (No additional cleaning fees). We have private rooms for two for that romantic getaway, or can accommodate small and large groups. Wireless internet now available. "

the coast! You must see the oregon coast! Cannon Beach is prettier but more expensive and snobby. Seaside is more middle class, has more hotels/motels and thus better rates (thank you competition). If you go now during the off season you should be able to get a real deal. Good luck!
