If you are grilling then you need picnic food.
Baked beans and/or potato salad.
Here is my old family recipie for potato salad:
I know a lot of stores/cafe have mustard potato salad and some use miricle whip but I have found this works better.
Boil the potatoes and eggs in one big pot, usually about 1 egg for every 1 or 2 potatoes.
Remove, let cool, and slice up both and mix together.
Then instead of mustard or whatever, mix in sour cream to blend the eggs and potatoes.
Voila!! It's great, after all, you use sour cream on baked potatoes, right?

Mashed potatoes or sweet potato oven fries are good. My suggestion, though, would be oven-fried onion rings. I can't find the recipe I've used, but it's something like this:
Slice a large mild onion (like Vidalia) and separate into rings. Soak in buttermilk seasoned with salt, pepper, and a little hot sauce ... about 15 minutes. Dredge each ring in flour and place on an oiled baking sheet. Bake at about 450 degrees until done, turning every five minutes or so. These were amazing!

As you are grilling the burgers anyway, why not make life easy and grill some fresh vegetables alongside. Thick slices of onion, green peppers, eggplant, zucchini, asparagus. Whatever you like and whatever looks best at the market.

You could make chili cheese burgers. Otherwise maybe a salad, cottage cheese with tomato, or a soup of some kind. How about a baked potato? Tater tots? Mashed potatoes?

Tossed salad is great with burgers with a simple vinegrette.
INGREDIENTS
1 cup sliced almonds
3 tablespoons red wine vinegar
1/3 cup olive oil
1/4 cup fresh cranberries
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
2 tablespoons water
1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
4 ounces crumbled blue cheese
1 pound mixed salad greens
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Arrange almonds in a single layer on a baking sheet. Toast in oven for 5 minutes, or until nuts begin to brown.
In a blender or food processor, combine the vinegar, oil, cranberries, mustard, garlic, salt, pepper, and water. Process until smooth.
In a large bowl, toss the almonds, onion, blue cheese, and greens with the vinegar mixture until evenly coated.
Pasta salads are also great!
INGREDIENTS
1 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 clove garlic, minced
1 1/2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil
2 cups colored rotini pasta
1 cup chopped tomatoes
1/2 cup chopped yellow bell pepper
1/2 cup sliced black olives
DIRECTIONS
Cook pasta according to package directions. Rinse in cold water, and drain.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, vinegar, salt, black pepper, and garlic until well blended. Mix in basil. Add pasta, tomatoes, bell peppers, and olives; fold gently until mixed. Chill several hours. Stir gently before serving.
