Almost all police depts. give lie detector, or polygraph tests in the hiring process; along with a psychological. The academy depends on whether it is a stand alone school not a part of the dept.

Don't know about all Police Departments or States, but here in Ohio, the State Patrol give you a Lie Detector Test prior to going to their academy.Remember,,,the truth will set you free,,or in this case,,may get you hired.

Our Department uses them. I think they are kind of a mix between witchcraft and voodoo with some prejudice thrown in.. But that's just my opinion. We just hired the worst police chief in recorded history, he is as crooked as a dog's leg and he apparently passed, or they don't give them the same tests they do us!

Most places do, New Jersey is one of the few states that I know of that it is illegal to use polygraph testing during the hiring process.
