Almost all police depts. give lie detector, or polygraph tests in the hiring process; along with a psychological. The academy depends on whether it is a stand alone school not a part of the dept.

Don't know about all Police Departments or States, but here in Ohio, the State Patrol give you a Lie Detector Test prior to going to their academy.Remember,,,the truth will set you free,,or in this case,,may get you hired.

Our Department uses them. I think they are kind of a mix between witchcraft and voodoo with some prejudice thrown in.. But that's just my opinion. We just hired the worst police chief in recorded history, he is as crooked as a dog's leg and he apparently passed, or they don't give them the same tests they do us!

Most places do, New Jersey is one of the few states that I know of that it is illegal to use polygraph testing during the hiring process.

Many departments use the polygraph attempt of their hiring technique. issues which will disqualify you from being a police officer are significant criminal events or a development of stripling criminal events or different undesirable determination making on your existence.

Yes they do, in civilian jobs and police jobs.

And they are very nerve-racking =P
