No one is "nice and turns mean". Some people do have a mean streak in them, but if you're the nicey nice and you LET people walk all over you, that's you and not a result from anything else. Does this make sense? You should always be nice even when you don't feel like it, but you should draw the line if people take advantage of you and or the situation. Some can do that and some can't. I personally have a hard time doing that myself, but it's amazing when you do, the kind of control you take back for yourself.

That is a definite YES. But the question is really, do you want to? Put it to you like this, and this is coming from a "nice guy"; Be you, if you're nice, stay nice, but when certain situations come up, handle them directly, and stand by your word. You don't have to back down to anyone. Number one, people will notice the difference, it shows respect for yourself, confidence, courage, and strength. All the things that women want in a real man. Now having that, and still being a nice guy, gets you farther than you'd expect. Good luck man.

Damn this is a really old post. I used to be the nice guy who got run over people. I start becoming meaner and meaner over the last 3 years, because of the rage and the feeling of helplessness. Its that horrible sinking feeling that no one values your kindness/whatyoudidforthem which makes you realize that you have to be selfish and live for yourself. Still 20 year old me has that niceness still hidden in my heart and sometimes I am just nice out of instinct. To OP, are you still nice or did you end up being a mean guy? I want to hear your story.

You should always be nice to someone. I know that there are a lot of ignorant people but, if your nice to them then that pisses them off even more. If your going to be ignorant and rude to people it will come back to you and hit you in the face. Just laugh it off.

you can't choose to be nice, your either are or you aren't. because a real nice guy wouldnt care if he was appreciated or not. i dont think you should be a door mat, but perhaps you are making yourself one. i mean are you a people pleaser to a fault? do you do nice things to get recognized? to get appreciated? perhaps you shouldnt accomadate anyone that you aren't close to. other than that when i'm nice i just want to be nice. i dont need anything in return.
