It does not have to be the only one, but the most important to have /gain. If you have more than one, thats ok aswell. (Eg: qualities such as wisdom, for example)

Loving / Charity

Matthew 5:43-48
43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.

44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?

47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?

48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Romans 13:10
Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

1 John 4:8
He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

1 John 4:11
Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

1 John 4:20
If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?

1 Corinthians 13:1
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not love, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

1 Corinthians 13:13
And now abideth faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

I believe charity of spirit is the most important quality one should strive to obtain. Such a benevolent goodwill toward or love of humanity will enable a person to peacefully co-exist with everyone and make this imperfect world just a little bit more tolerable. We all have our inherent biases and flaws, but there is no reason we cannot strive to be better, no matter what our personal circumstances may be.

Tolerance. If we can't be tolerant of what other people think, then we can't ever have an openmind about things. If we can't be tolerant of things, then we can never have harmony in our society. People often confuse tolerance with agreement, but being tolerant simply means that you are willing to accept that other people have different views and allow them to have those views, even when they are not the same views that you hold. Many other great characterstics are born of tolerance. For example, acceptance, trust, understanding, etc.

Empathy... I honestly believe that all other things can be acquired through this virtue. Honesty, compassion, trust, accountability... the importance of all those can be learned through the lens of empathy. How do we know who we are and what we stand for if we cannot walk a mile in another's moccasins?

Humility! When someone is humble, they're open to learning, teaching, listening, forgiving, giving and receiving love, and they view others as important. With this quality, it's easier to become self-aware, and socially interact with those around you.
