My boyfriend and I are going to a new trendy restuarant for dinner with another couple tomorrow night. (we are in our mid-20's) I'm not sure what to wear. This restuarant is located near an Ivy League University in a pretty hip city. I want to be comfortable, yet trendy. Heels are not a problem. However, I'm currently in the middle of losing some much needed weight. I lose a little more each week, but I don't like clothing that is too tight around my middle/stomach area. I'm not ready for that type of clothing. I also want clothing that I can still wear if I lose another 5-10 pounds.
I am going to have to buy something new, b/c I don't have any trendy, sophistated clothes. My old clothes don't fit and I don't have any friends in my size range to borrow from.
Ideas? I want to look cute, sexy, sophistated and trendy b/c the other couple is always dressed very well.

It's cold/chilly in this part of the country; so sandals and sundresses are out. Short sleeves are ok, but nothing too summery.

I'm totally with you on the no tight clothing over the midsection thing so I generally like to wear tops with an empire waist when I go out (gives me drinking room!). try to find a cute top with thin straps and the empire waist (this will show off your boobs AND cover your waist isn't that awesome?) in a fun color. For the bottoms you NEVER want to wear a skirt with an empire top you always want to wear some sort of pants... this is up to you, if you like a capri length they show off your calves or if you like to cover up just a bit more do a full length pant (cigarette cut is very slimming!). Color of your pants will depend on the top you find, generally a plain black or brown would work if your top has a print but if the top is a plain color pinstripe pants are slimming as well. Plus if you are trying to loose weight and you want to buy the pants a size smaller than what you are wearing now you will totally be able to get away with wearing them with the empire top. As for the shoes if its cold outside do a pump if you decide to go with capris or stiletto boots if you decide to go with the full length pants. Lastly for jewelry i like to go with either big earrings and maybe a simple long chain necklace or a fun chunky shorter necklace with simple earrings (you never want to do big earrings with a chunky necklace that's obnoxious... and if the top has a print on it you will probably be better off going with the big earring/simple necklace option) Plus some fun bangles at your discretion if you feel it will add to the ensemble. Okay hope this helps!!

My weight fluctuates wildly on occasion, (I'm asthmatic- it's the medication) so I know where you're coming from. What might have been comfortable not long ago becomes less so as your body changes.
Especially if you're near an Ivy, you might be in a rather more reserved area. So, you definitely don't want to wear "booty clothes" anyway. I'd gear towards classic lines and elegance. If you plan on losing more weight, you may want to purchase something with either multiple fasteners, or hidden elastic.
I'd definitely go with a skirt. These tend to have more give to them than pants- which if they don't fit perfectly, look awful, especially if they're in a trendy cut. (although fortunately, the skinny cut jeans are vanishing as quckly as they resurfaced.) I'd suggest either a shorter one with a flared shape to it, or a long flowy one. These are in right now anyway, at least where I am. You'll be more comfortable, and it'll still look nice when you drop more weight. You can pair this with a slim sweater or say, velvet top with a bit of stretch to it.
I'd also say that you should have a bit of fun with your jewelry. The right jewels always dress up an outfit, and will always fit. Perhaps you could splurge on a pair of conversation piece earrings, like these.

Just wear a nice sweater, dark jeans and some heels. Accessorizing can make a difference too. I've learned that you shouldn't put so much thought into it, because a lot of the time you will be overdressed compared to everyone else. Just make sure you wear a sweater that is kind of loose so it doesn't hug your stomach. I have the same problem too. Have fun tonight!!!

Wrap dresses are nice when you're going through weight changes. If you get one slightly small, you can just throw on a cami underneath, and when you shrink a bit more, you won't need the cami anymore. You can get pretty cheap ones at the mall, and they're always fashionable. They also look great on everyone, because they create a nice hourglass shape, even when you have a bit of a tummy.
