Why didn't your piercer explain to you aftercare? Seems very shady to me that you got a piercing but were never informed how to clean it. I strongly advise you not to see that piercer again (or if you did it yourself, don't ever do that again either)

To clean: for the first 6ish weeks, wash the outside twice daily with Dial soap and water. Rinsing the area well and using a q-tip to remove any build up from the jewelry. After 6 weeks you can cut cleaning down to daily. If the skin gets dried out, do not use creams or moisturizers, just cut down on cleaning a bit.

You'll also want to do salt soaks which will help the piercing drain and soothe the area.

Never ever use rubbing alcohol, peroxide, Bactine, neosporin and other harsh cleaners. They tend to dry out piercings while killing both good and bad bacteria which can slow healing and irritate your piercing.

Navel piercings take an average of 6 months to heal but can be up to a year for some people. During this healing period at no time should you remove or change the jewelry unless done by a professional piercer. Remember piercings will heal from the outside in so just because it LOOKS healed, doesn't mean it is. Do not play with the piercing and try to keep clothes from rubbing on the area. Normally, if you have questions or concerns, you are advised to see your piercer, but I would suggest that you find a new and more reputable piercer to go to.

I use a product called H2Ocean, it's a salt spray used for piercings. This solution is used to thoroughly clean, and stave away infection. It also lessons pain and swelling. I got some from my piercer, but I have seen some in the store Hot Topic. Hope everything works out for you!

Wash with warm water and unscented antibacterial soap, sliding the ring back and forth to get the soap in there, rinse thoroughly. After cleaning rinse with saline solution, sliding the ring back and forth again to get the solution into the piercing.

when I get any piercings I used "Bactine"(i think thats how it is spelled)
or you can use epson salts mixed with warm water in a glass. you have to cover your button up and kind of hold the glass sideways to get the soulution on the piercing.
make sure you clean it 2x a day and get all the crutstie off before you turn it, and make sure everything that touches it is clean.don't let anyone touch it until its healed.

hope that helps

alochol and peroxide are not so good
